Our Commitment to Carbon Reduction and Offsetting

At Business Supplies Group, we recognise the role businesses play in reducing environmental impact and supporting the transition to a lower carbon future.

We are proud to share that we have retained our status as a carbon neutral organisation through a combination of emissions reduction initiatives and verified carbon offsetting. We are also now recognised as a CO₂ reduced organisation, having lowered our overall carbon output compared to last year. This reflects the steps we are taking to improve efficiency and reduce our environmental impact.

This marks an important step in our sustainability journey and reflects our commitment to taking practical, measurable action.

What Carbon Neutral Means

Being carbon neutral means that we have measured our carbon emissions and taken steps to balance them by funding verified projects that reduce or remove carbon from the atmosphere.

This is not a substitute for reducing emissions. It works alongside ongoing efforts to improve efficiency, reduce waste and make more sustainable choices across our operations.

Our approach focuses on:

  • Reducing emissions where possible
  • Improving operational efficiency
  • Offsetting remaining emissions through verified climate projects

Supporting Verified Climate Projects

To offset our emissions, we have invested in a range of independently verified carbon reduction projects through recognised global standards.

These projects not only reduce carbon emissions but also deliver wider environmental and social benefits.

We have contributed to the mitigation of 598 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO₂) through the following initiatives:

Improved Cookstove Distribution – Rwanda

This project supports the distribution of efficient cookstoves across communities in Rwanda.

Cooking stoves in Rwanda

Traditional cooking methods often rely on open fires, which consume large amounts of fuel and produce harmful emissions. By introducing improved cookstoves, this project helps to:

  • Reduce carbon emissions
  • Lower fuel consumption
  • Improve air quality within homes
  • Support local communities with safer cooking solutions

Northern Uganda Safe Water Project

This initiative improves access to clean, safe drinking water in Northern Uganda.

Uganda safe water project

By reducing the need for households to boil water over open fires, the project helps to:

  • Lower carbon emissions
  • Reduce reliance on fuel sources such as wood
  • Improve health outcomes within communities
  • Support long-term access to clean water

Katingan Peatland Restoration and Conservation – Indonesia

This project focuses on protecting and restoring peatland ecosystems in Indonesia.

Peatlands are one of the most effective natural carbon stores on the planet. When damaged or drained, they release significant amounts of carbon dioxide.

This project helps to:

  • Prevent large-scale carbon emissions
  • Protect biodiversity and wildlife habitats
  • Support local communities through sustainable land use
  • Restore critical natural ecosystems

Why This Matters

Sustainability is becoming an increasingly important consideration for organisations across all sectors. Many businesses are looking more closely at their supply chains and the environmental impact of their partners.

By becoming carbon neutral and investing in verified climate projects, we are taking meaningful steps to reduce our impact and support global climate goals.

This also allows us to support our customers who are working towards their own sustainability targets.

A Continued Commitment to Improvement

Achieving carbon neutrality is an important milestone, but it is not the end of the journey.

We will continue to focus on reducing emissions across our operations, improving efficiency and expanding the range of sustainable products and services available to our customers.

Our goal is to make sustainability a practical part of how we operate, not just a statement.

Supporting More Sustainable Workplaces

Alongside our own initiatives, we support customers in making more sustainable purchasing decisions through:

  • Carbon neutral deliveries
  • Access to eco-friendly product ranges
  • Spend visibility tools
  • Green Audit support

These tools help organisations better understand their environmental impact and identify opportunities for improvement.

ESG

Looking Ahead

Sustainability is an ongoing journey that requires consistent action and transparency.

We are proud of the progress we have made so far and remain committed to building on this foundation, supporting both our customers and the wider environment.
